TORONTO, ON / August 16, 2019 / On Monday August 12, 2019, Bill Morneau, Minister of Finance, launched the CyberSecure Canada certification program. As a leader in cybersecurity services in North America, SourcetekIT is mentioned as one of the few organizations authorized to certify.
The CyberSecure Canada program is the first federal program of its kind. As a voluntary program it aims to help small to medium-sized organizations achieve a baseline level of cybersecurity. Small to medium-sized organizations are extremely vulnerable to cyber attacks due to their few IT resources, budget, and lack of knowledge regarding the subject. CyberSecure Canada will not only provide these organizations with the education and resources to protect themselves, but will also give their customers greater confidence when interacting with these organizations.
The program outlines a cybersecurity standard that organizations can be assessed and certified against. This includes a set of must have security controls within IT systems in order to protect private data from threats. IT World Canada has reported that CyberSecure will collaborate with a pre-existing program: “… the Cyber Essentials program will be folded into the federal program”. The federal involvement in promoting cybersecurity standards is an attempt to spread awareness and prepare small to medium-sized organizations across the nation. “… it’s critical that Canadians feel confident about the security of their interactions and information.” explains Morneau. “Today’s announcement is an investment in skills, in businesses and in the future of our economy.”
As a certifying body of both CyberSecure Canada, SourcetekIT is prepared to assist small to medium-sized organizations with implementing the basic security controls outlined by CyberSecure Canada to strengthen their cybersecurity. Since their founding in 2009, SourcetekIT has helped businesses of all sizes navigate the world of cybersecurity. Their services range from Cloud Integration and Corporate Training to Security Operation Centers (SOC).
